What an exciting month we have coming up! One of our very own, Rebecca McGowan, has qualified for the Olympic Games as the +67Kg category. Rebecca started training with the club 20 years ago competing nationally and internationally. She became a full time athlete with the GB team in Manchester in 2016. Since then, she went on to win the Europeans Championships, medalled at the World Championships and medalled at several Grand Prix events. In addition, she has won numerous opens. She is the first Scot to ever qualify for the games in taekwondo. Rebecca will be competing at the Grand Palais, Paris on Saturday 10th August. We will be cheering her on.

However, before that on Saturday 13th July, 1pm at the centre, Rebecca and her GB Coach Torann Maizeroi, will be delivering a taekwondo session and talking about the importance of mindset in athletes. This is open to everyone from the club who has an interest in the sport side of taekwondo. We are hoping to have a celebration, and a club send off, after the event before she embarks on her intense training camp in preparation for the Games.
It is not just Rebecca who is having a busy summer. Lucian Procopciuc will be representing Glasgow University and UK universities at the European University Games in Hungary on the 23rd July. Lucian will be competing in the -74Kg category. He has medalled at the past two European University Games and is fresh from the European Championships in Serbia. Lucian is currently at a training camp in Portugal preparing for the games. We are super excited to see how he gets on!
On the 1st of August it will be our 20th anniversary of the gym in Anniesland opening. We started as a club in 1995, training throughout the city but found our home in 2004. As is our tradition, we will host a kids summer party later in August when everyone is back form their holidays.
We will be having time off from Friday 5th, up to and including Friday 12th (to catch our breath). Therefore, there will be no taekwondo classes during this period. The gym, bootcamps and barbell classes will run as normal during this time..
You can now contact us on WhatsApp via the club telephone number – 0141 950 2550. It is probably the quickest way to get hold of us now.
